The 3M Club R/C Flyer

March 2003 AMA Club Charter 2036

After doing some web surfing I’ve found the easiest path to r/c info around the state is to go to our web site: www.net-express.com/3mrcflyers and there is a links page to the Minnesota RC Directory ( www.net-express.com/mnrc/home.html ). This site lists all? The clubs in Minnesota and has links to the clubs with websites. The larger clubs all have listings on upcoming events.

Next Meeting is on March 17th in the 224 Cafeteria.

Irv has been updating the Wed Morning Flyers page just about every week so be sure to check it out for high intensity action photos! This is the new location of the Informal 3M Wed Morning Flyers Breakfast Page http://www.cpinternet.com/~mmmpc535/3MRC/

FIELD CLEAN UP DAY AT THE FIELD -
Saturday, MAY 3,2003 - 9:30 AM

Hi, Guys, I am still in Mesa, AZ and should be back in MN about April 1 or so.

Dave Brown and I have been discussing field clean up day, which will be Saturday, May 3, 2003 at 9:30 AM, so please mark your calendars . We will have coffee and donuts ready for you even before the work starts if you need a lift !

We will plan on the usual tasks of twig and branch pick up, garage clean out, wind sock and flag work and anything else Dave may suggest that needs tweaking.

Dave will be looking over the picnic tables for repair needs and painting. That will be our big job for this year.

So, come with the usual tools and implements and add coveralls or old painting clothes, paint brushes, scrapers, wire brushes, power sanders, etc. We will provide paint, rollers , pans and solvent .

Dave will also be looking over the whole operation for anything else that needs attention.

Flying here has been great ! Vern Wald and I have flown together and Bill Krawczak spent a couple of days here on his way to San Diego.

I have my Hobby Lobby/Graupner TIPSY flying - Its a fun pusher. Nick Ziroli, Sr reviewed the Tipsy in the March 2003 RCM Modeler. He says he's not going to loop it any more, But mine loops fine without wing failure so far.

3M R/C FLYERS MEMBERSHIP MEETING

Members present: Travis Gregar, Corky Wald, Paul Costello, Dick Rosenquist (Recording Secretary) President Travis greeted all who were in attendance.

Old Business:
Members, if you need a new shirt or hat, give George Kostuch a call at 651-777-1096, it takes a little while to get the merchandise. Spring cleanup at R/C field: Scheduled for April 26th. This date will hold unless March’s Membership Meeting determines another date. 3M R/C display at building 275, a date has yet to be set.

New Business:

2003 Fun Fly, no date was set, but there was a motion by Tom Marson, and seconded for a Fun Fly to be held at the 3M site, with a possibility of other clubs to be invited. A fair amount of discussion on the above subject by most of the members who were present. A date will be set at the March Meeting.

SHOW AND TELL:
Bernie Kobilka brought in another SIG Space Walker, finished in the bones status. Ernie, for the most part, got some plans and wood, but the rest of it is totally Bernie’s creation. He has made 4 or 5 of these already, and each one is an improvement from the last. Bernie is truly a craftsman for the finished product is fabulous. Bernie stated he has already 200 construction hours involved and by the time he finishes it will include another 100. Some of the stats are a 9 ft wing span ‘1/3 scale’, will be powered by a 4 cylinder engine, and the weight approximately 21 to 23 pounds.
Rick Losinski reported on the Electric Fly at the Humphrey Dome in Minneapolis. The attendance was better than expected and all went quite smoothly. The Club will be looking for another date. Rick brought in 2 examples of the electric aircraft he has been flying. On the larger side an Easy Fly, an electric powered glider, a Styrofoam, much smaller, called a Twin Jet, powered by 2 - 400 size engines on a 9 cell power pack, and has shown very good performance. The thought that Rick was trying to show that with electric powered aircraft there is quite a variety of sizes, performance and costs.

Meeting closed at 8:00 PM.
